Since I wrote a somewhat negative (but honest) blog yesterday, I decided I needed to offset it with a positive post today. I am a melancholy person at heart, but want to be a born-again optimistic person. So each time I write something negative, I will, hopefully follow it up with something positive. I cannot make this a guarantee, but I will do my best and that is all any of us can ever do.
Thanksgiving 2015 is a few days away. During this week, and on that day specifically, people tend to focus on what they are grateful for. It is human nature to do this, just as it is human nature for the other 364 days to focus on things we are SICK and TIRED of, things and people that bring us down. So let me follow the crowd and start a stream of consciousness type of grateful Thanksgiving blog.
God. Without Him, I would be nowhere on my way to no place. He loves me, He redeemed me. That's everything.
Ric. Without him, I would be half of what I am. I would be lonely. I would not have anyone to argue with or be my true self with, knowing he won't leave. Who would I talk about sports with? Who would drive me crazy as hell but at the same time make me so eternally happy?
Joseph. My oldest, my first-born. The peacemaker and biography-watcher. The one who knows something about everything. So many great memories tied up in this child. The "you could be right" child. My heart living outside my body.
James. The middle son, the consummate athlete, the one who reminds me of my brother and my dad, all rolled into one. My brother because of his baseball talent and his carefree way; my father because both are men of few words, but of great compassion.
Alessandra. My youngest and my most difficult. Because she's like me? Perhaps. But maybe because she is more like my own mother. She hides her emotions, but feels them deeply. She is giving, beautiful, courageous, fearless. How I look up to her!
Friends. Too many to count and blessings for different reasons. Many have been there for years: Melissa, Lori, Tip, Regan, Linda, Catherine. Some have left and come back: Holly, Linda R. Some are new and so cherished: Catherine, Khadeem, Karina, Katherine. All have brought good into my life and also pain. Joy and tears. Those I have lost: Amy, Melanie.
Gifts I have been given. The ability to write, to feel deeply, to be passionate. To love, to travel, to connect with just about anyone on a one-on-one basis. I have been given a fair amount of beauty and an ability to handle money and to save money. I am an emotional being that, every once in a while, lives in the moment. To whom much is given much is required. Sometimes I wish it weren't so.
A nice house, in the best place in the world with a great job with awesome health and I get to travel and keep the points and I fly Frontier for free when I can get a seat which is sometimes rare. A gorgeous cat, a love of animals. Great vacations and lots of concerts. Taylor Swift 4 times. Lots of baseball stadiums. Rockies games and Broncos games and Avs games and Nuggets games. I win contests and get focus groups and have Viggle and get to mystery shop. I get to be a mom and a daughter and a sister and a girlfriend. And the proud owner of a cat. The best cat ever.
The list goes on and on. But how easy it is to forget these things. So my hope is, this Thanksgiving season, that I don't forget, but....Remember.
