Today I changed the title of my blog to "I Love You, I Miss You, I'm Sorry, Good Night." I did this because I decided I needed a theme for my blog. This came to me like many things do: at 2 in the morning when I can't sleep and have endless things running though my mind.
I gave it the title I did because I want my blog to be about, not the way things are, but the way I wish they were. Sounds weird, I know, but I like the idea and want to see where it goes.
Why the title, you ask? Because I have made the observation over the years that many people have a hard time saying "I love you." They have no problem saying "Love You," but there is something about putting the "I" in front of it that is the issue.
I have noticed the same thing, although not as often, with the phrases "I Miss You," "I'm sorry," and "Good Night," although not as frequently.
So last night, when I lie wide awake with a million random thoughts running through my head, I decided I would change the name of this blog, have a theme and write more often. And I the first thing I decided to write about in my new "I wish things could be this way" is the whole I Love You thing.
More often than not, in my own life and as I observe posts on social media, I see people saying "Love You" instead of "I Love You." Why?
Well, I am no psychologist, but sometimes I think I am fairly good at observing people and their words. I think putting an I in front of Love You is just a bit too intimate for people. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that I'm not.
Since observing this phenomenon, I go out of my way to say the three words. I have made it my goal to always say "I Love You" even though it is sometimes uncomfortable. I don't ever have a hard time saying it to my husband or my kids, but sometimes it is difficult saying it to other people in my life.
I didn't say it to my own parents until the last few years; it was something that just wasn't said in our household. That being the case, it was very difficult to overcome. But not impossible.
I'd like to start a crusade of sorts and encourage you to say "I Love You" to those in your life. I think it's a challenge worthy of accepting, don't you? To make it easier, I will go first.
I Love You.
Now that wasn't so hard was it?
