As I wrote yesterday, 2015 has been a bit of a rough year already.
Today it got a tad bit better; actually, more than a tad bit.
I had been putting off having a colonoscopy for over a year, for a variety of reasons. First, I had had two very painful experiences with it in the past. Next, I hate the preparation that is required. Last, I was afraid that it may find cancer....or pre-cancer, as my maternal grandmother died of colon cancer when she was fairly young.
But it worked out that I had a few days cleared from my work schedule and saw this as my best opportunity to get it done. I have been putting everything else in front of it getting done and finally decided that I needed to enter 2015 with a clean bill of health.
So today I had the procedure. I spent all yesterday and last night preparing for it, including starving myself, depriving myself of coffee and drinking the most God-awful thing I have ever had to taste, all to prepare for something I dreaded! I spent hours sitting on the toilet, became dehydrated and was starved myself, all to go through the torture that is a colonoscopy.
Ric drove me and brought me home, which was a wonderful blessing. Who else would take care of me like that? He really rose to the occasion and I am so happy about that. My insurance paid every cent of the nearly 4K procedure. Thank God for insurance! I had a wonderful nurse take care of me and a DR. that cared and knew what she was doing.
More than anything, I did not suffer much during the procedure, was pretty much out of it most of the time, did not get sick from the drugs and am CANCER free!
It is so easy for me to focus on the negative and not see the amazing blessings in my life! Today was a huge blessing, for all of the reasons listed above. I even got a huge hug from my son and a good luck as I left today. All of these things combine to make me feel very at peace and happy today. Sometimes it is the little things that make a difference...or a bunch of little things in one situation that make the difference.
When I am facing many challenges at once, I turn inward and get very depressed. I have been this way my entire life. Having one major thing turn out so well makes the other negative things that are going on more palatable....now I have one thing down and can face the other challenges with a more positive, strong attitude.
Thank you, God, for taking care of me in such tangible, meaningful ways to today!
